Special thanks to Brian Adams, Skagit County Parks and Recreation Director. Brian is a long-time GIFT supporter and trail advocate. Brian has worked with the GIFT team and internal County organizations for years to keep this project moving forward. Brian recently commented, "This project is a partnership between Skagit County Parks and Recreation and the Guemes Island Community. Together, we are building a trail for today and for future generations - one that reflects the island's values, supports healthy outdoor activity, and strengthens connection across the community."
We are extremely fortunate and thankful to have Brian Adams and Skagit County Parks and Recreation as partners on the GIFT project!
What's Happening
We are excited to announce that the Skagit Bicycle Club has officially kicked off GIFT Phase 2 fundraising with a very generous donation! This month (Feb 2026), GIFT received a check for $1,500 from the Skagit Bicycle Club and a letter, which read, in part, "Many of us in the Club enjoy riding on Guemes Island, and we actively advocate for safer cycling infrastructure in our area. We were pleased to learn of your project recently, and glad to help support it."
The Skagit Bicycle Club is a very active not-for-profit bicycle club with a membership of about 250 local cycling enthusiasts. The Club provides group riding opportunities for all skill levels. You can learn more about the Skagit Bicycle club on their website.
The GIFT team is very grateful for the Skagit Bicycle Club's generosity and support!
The Anacortes Parks Foundation (APF) is a non-profit public foundation that supports parks and recreation-related projects and programs on Fidalgo and Guemes islands. APF has been a longtime partner and supporter of the Guemes Island Ferry Trail project. In fact, GIFT was awarded $2,000 by APF ten years ago - yes, we've been working on the trail project for THAT long (truthfully, longer)!
In July of 2025, the GIFT team applied for another APF grant. We received an award letter in September informing us that our grant application had been approved and that a $5,000 check was in the mail.
We are very grateful for APF's continued generosity and ongoing support of the GIFT project!
You can learn more about APF's community involvement and generosity on their website.
